Classical Acupuncture in Farnham & Godalming
Life in Balance, Health in Harmony
Acupuncture is a medical practice with over 2,000 years of history that addresses both the root cause of a condition and its symptoms. It’s a highly versatile treatment that can benefit anyone suffering from various types of pain—such as back, shoulder, and knee pain—as well as mental health, fertility, chronic pain, headaches, and much more.

“As soon as I spent a little while with Josh, I knew that I had chosen the right acupuncturist for me! Josh is a good listener and has the elusive emotional intelligence that sets him apart.”

Specialist Acupuncturist
Acupuncture's beauty is inherent in its great capacity to respect and grasp every person's particular constitution and health path. It is anchored in a knowledge of the natural rhythms and cycles of the planet we live on—how the seasons, elements, and energies affect our physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Acupuncture is a way of life as much as a medical treatment; it's a philosophy that helps the body, mind, and spirit to live in harmony.
Classical Chinese books offer amazing detail, delving into certain fields such bi syndrome—often known now as musculoskeletal disorders or joint discomfort. Still, acupuncture extends well beyond addressing single problems. Fundamentally, it is a methodical and comprehensive way to grasp the human body and foster it entirely. This approach is really beautiful in that it sees every individual as an integrated web of energy, emotions, and bodily actions.
This makes it difficult to see acupuncture from a limited perspective of specialisation. Acupuncture is fundamentally about its capacity to treat the underlying causes of imbalance and simultaneously reduce the surface-level symptoms. Its actual expertise is the system itself: a technique meant to treat the whole individual instead of concentrating just on one condition or bodily component.
Having said that, Josh has developed knowledge in several areas he often concentrates on using both traditional ideas and contemporary interpretations to offer specific treatment. His method supports a broad spectrum of diseases while always honouring the uniqueness of every person's path by combining the ageless knowledge of Chinese Medicine with the particular requirements of his patients.
Areas of Acupuncture Expertise
Acupuncture for Pain
Josh has been an athlete for most of his life, competing in sports like triathlons and ultramarathons. This experience gives him a unique understanding of the challenges athletes face—balancing the need to keep moving while sometimes managing injuries. His passion for treating musculoskeletal pain stems from this firsthand knowledge. Josh uses a combination of acupuncture, cupping, and massage therapy to address a wide range of conditions, including back pain, knee pain, tennis elbow, and more. Often it is muscular pains that bring someone to acupuncture and then they discover the full effects of what it can do.
Fertility Acupuncture
Women’s health is big focus in Josh’s clinic, encompassing everything from menstrual pain and fertility (natural or assisted) to labor induction, breech baby support, and menopause. Acupuncture has demonstrated its effectiveness in supporting women’s health across all stages of life. Research strongly supports acupuncture’s role in improving fertility outcomes, making it one of the most frequently addressed concerns in the clinic. Acupuncture also offers natural and effective support for hormonal balance, stress reduction, and addressing conditions like polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and endometriosis.
Chronic Pain
Josh’s journey into acupuncture began with his battle against nearly two years of debilitating pain that left him almost bedridden. This personal experience fuels his dedication to helping others overcome complex and chronic pain. Acupuncture addresses both the physical and emotional aspects of chronic pain, offering relief and hope to those dealing with conditions like digestive disorders, long COVID, chronic fatigue syndrome, and fibromyalgia. His healing journey gave him a deep understanding of the frustration and isolation that accompany chronic conditions, shaping his compassionate approach to care.
Mental Health
In Chinese Medicine, the mind, spirit, and body are inseparable. Many of Josh’s patients have emotional challenges ranging from anxiety, stress, and feelings of loss, to deep depression. Often patients come with neurodiversity too. His deep interest in mental health is also personal, shaped by the loss of friends to mental health struggles. Patients describe acupuncture as akin to therapy but with a unique ability to reach deeper, more spiritual layers of healing. The power of the needles can access and release emotional blockages without the need to revisit painful memories, avoiding the risk of re-triggering unpleasant experiences.

“Joshua is amazing! He was kind and gentle, took the time to listen to what I needed, and tailored his treatment to me. I felt energised and calm after the session and slept so well that night! Highly recommended”

I am in Love with Chinese Medicine
I am a strong supporter of acupuncture because I have seen personally the wonderful changes it brings to people's lives. Over the years, I've had the opportunity to help hundreds of people find comfort, balance, and fresh directions via this ancient technique. This transformative experience motivates me to spread the word about the benefits of acupuncture.
Aside from working with patients, I am highly devoted to improving the field of acupuncture. I teach at the International College of Medicine, where I help to guide the next generation of practitioners. I also run the regional group of acupuncturists in Surrey on behalf of the British Acupuncture Council and support acupuncture conferences in Europe.
For me, Chinese Medicine has been nothing short of life-changing, improving my life in innumerable ways and continuing to do so. My purpose is to share this gift with others and guide you through its amazing advantages.

However it can support a huge range of conditions from cancer support, the weird and the wonderful, and everything in between.
-
A cancer diagnosis brings physical, emotional, and spiritual challenges, and even surviving cancer introduces new hurdles. Acupuncture can provide much-needed support during chemotherapy, alleviating symptoms like fatigue and peripheral neuropathy. Beyond the physical, Josh’s treatments also offer a safe and compassionate space to navigate the spiritual and emotional aspects of this journey. Cancer survivorship is often overlooked, but Josh focuses on helping patients find a sense of purpose and clarity as they adapt to a new chapter in life.

“A few words to sum up Josh and his treatment? Thoughtful, patient, attentive, supportive and skilful.”

Acupuncture enables everyone to live to their best potential. It promotes actual health—not simply the absence of sickness, but a robust state of well-being that is tailored to each individual's specific qualities. While acupuncture may cure illnesses as they occur, it frequently treats issues that the body has been indicating long before symptoms manifest. Its effectiveness stems from the fact that it addresses both the current problem and the underlying imbalance (or ben 本 and biao 标).
The initial stage of healing is on treating sickness, providing alleviation of pain, and restoring balance and equilibrium. The second level delves further, avoiding sickness and assisting individuals in living in accordance with their true nature. Acupuncture, at its most profound, nurtures destiny, extending life and cultivating purpose and alignment.
Acupuncture's holistic method connects all three levels of healing, providing a profound pathway to balance, health, and fulfillment.
